Many people have different views about who was Jesus. Some say he was a prophet like Muslims, some say he was a moral teacher, Bible says he is God and Savior of the world, while others never care at all. Whether you like or not, you should be concerned with what Jesus said he was.
So, who was Jesus? What was his mission? Where did he live? What was like His life? Why does Jesus matter? You should pose and consider them because they are very important.
Jesus name Meaning
The name Jesus comes word ‘Yeshua‘ which is Hebrew-Aramaic word meaning ‘Yahweh (yhwh) Is my Salvation. Christ is a title for Jesus. Christ means ‘Annointed One’ – ‘Christos‘(Χριστός) in Greek or Messiah (מָשִׁיחַ) in Hebrew.
WHO IS JESUS? He is God, creator of all things.
John 1:1-3,14
John 1:1-3,14
[1]In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God.
[2]The same was in the beginning with God.
[3]All things were made by him; and without him was not any thing made that was made.
[14]And the Word was made flesh, and dwelt among us, (and we beheld his glory, the glory as of the only begotten of the Father,) full of grace and truth.
As John the Apostle puts in in John 1:1-3,14, Jesus Christ is the Word and He was in the beginning with God and He is God. Jesus is not a god nor is he created being like angel. Neither did he become God. He had always been God Almighty.Isaiah 9:6.
“For by him all things were created, things in heaven and thing on earth, visible and invisible.” Colossians 1:16-17
Jesus Christ did not become God, He was God in the beginning. He is begotten not created. The Bible says He is before all things. Colossians 1:17. It is very important to first understand this point.
JESUS IS A MAN. The Word become flesh.
John 1:14
Jesus Christ, was manifested in the flesh to us. This is what is called incarnation. It is God taking upon himself man nature without ceasing to be God. Jesus did not cease to be God to become man, but He took upon himself man nature, thus becoming fully man while being fully divine. Therefore Jesus is 100% God and 100% man.
It is unbiblical to say that Jesus was a mere man, Jesus was not just a man but both God and Man.There is not time ever at which Jesus was not God.
Philippians 2:6-8[6]Who, being in the form of God, thought it not robbery to be equal with God:[7]But made himself of no reputation, and took upon him the form of a servant, and was made in the likeness of men:[8]And being found in fashion as a man, he humbled himself, and became obedient unto death, even the death of the cross.
Jesus was human in every way, He got hungry Mathew 4:2, He slept Mark 4:38, He slept John 11:35, He was moved with compassion Mark 1:41. He was tempted in every way as we are, yet without Sin. Hebrews 5:4. He was born, grew.
There is no recorded of exact date when Jesus was born, his skin color, his height etc. What we know is that Jesus was much like any ordinary jew. There is no picture of Jesus christ. Though people Celebrate Christ’s birthday during Christmas, Jesus was not born then.
Jesus Prophecy in the Bible
Jesus’ birth, mission, life and death were prophesied long before he was born. The first promise of Christ is in Genesis 3. The promised seed of a woman bruising head of the serpent points to Jesus Christ ultimate victory over Satan. Jesus Christ is the seed of the woman.
Throughout the Old Testament, figures and shadows all pointing to Christ. The cities of refuge, whole of ceremonial laws, abstinence from certain foods these were shadows but substance is Christ. The whole Bible points to Jesus.
The promise of God to Abraham that ‘In your seed all the nations shall be blessed, because you have obeyed My voice’ is fulfilled in Jesus. Paul says that ‘your seed’ is Christ. Galatians 2:28
Isaiah 53 speaks of Christ bearing the iniquities of us all.
Isaiah 53:2-12
Isaiah 53
[2]For he shall grow up before him as a tender plant, and as a root out of a dry ground: he hath no form nor comeliness; and when we shall see him, there is no beauty that we should desire him.
[3]He is despised and rejected of men; a man of sorrows, and acquainted with grief: and we hid as it were our faces from him; he was despised, and we esteemed him not.
[4]Surely he hath borne our griefs, and carried our sorrows: yet we did esteem him stricken, smitten of God, and afflicted.
[5]But he was wounded for our transgressions, he was bruised for our iniquities: the chastisement of our peace was upon him; and with his stripes we are healed.
[6]All we like sheep have gone astray; we have turned every one to his own way; and the LORD hath laid on him the iniquity of us all.
[7]He was oppressed, and he was afflicted, yet he opened not his mouth: he is brought as a lamb to the slaughter, and as a sheep before her shearers is dumb, so he openeth not his mouth.
[8]He was taken from prison and from judgment: and who shall declare his generation? for he was cut off out of the land of the living: for the transgression of my people was he stricken.
[9]And he made his grave with the wicked, and with the rich in his death; because he had done no violence, neither was any deceit in his mouth.
[10]Yet it pleased the LORD to bruise him; he hath put him to grief: when thou shalt make his soul an offering for sin, he shall see his seed, he shall prolong his days, and the pleasure of the LORD shall prosper in his hand.
[11]He shall see of the travail of his soul, and shall be satisfied: by his knowledge shall my righteous servant justify many; for he shall bear their iniquities.
[12]Therefore will I divide him a portion with the great, and he shall divide the spoil with the strong; because he hath poured out his soul unto death: and he was numbered with the transgressors; and he bare the sin of many, and made intercession for the transgressors.
Isaiah 9:6 speaks of Jesus Christ being born by a virgin and his titles.
JESUS EARLY LIFE.
Jesus was born in Bethlehem by Virgin Mary. He was born through the lineage of David. His parents, Joseph and Mary had travelled to the Bethlehem (city of David) to be registered. Caesar Augustus had decreed that all people to be registered during that census. His parents moved from Nazareth where they lived to Bethlehem to registered with his betrothed wife, Mary and child. That was time when Jesus Christ was born.
After being born, Herod received the news from wisemen who had come to Jerusalem looking for Jesus to worship him that King of Jews had been born. Seeking to kill Jesus, angel appeared to Joseph to flee to Egypt with his wife and child and sojourn there till angel brings him a word.
After some time, Herod died and angel told Joseph travelled back to Israel and came to nazareth. Joseph, his father was a carpenter and Jesus seems to have learnt carpentry.
But that was not main reason why Jesus came. His purpose was to call sinners to repentance. He is the lamb of God who takes away the sins of the world.
Jesus Ministry
Jesus chose 12 disciples, preached the Gospel of the King, performed miracles, taught in the synagogues and the villages in Galilee, Samaria and neighbouring regions. If you a a well detailed recorded of events, you should study the first four books of New Testament; Mathew, Mark, Luke and John.
Many people would agree with all Jesus did but not what all he said. Below are some of the things Jesus said.
John 6:47-48
Verily, verily, I say unto you, He that believeth on me hath everlasting life.
I am that bread of life.
Jesus lived a sinless life, obeyed the law of God perfectly and fulfilled the just demands of the law. He did this for us sinners who could not do anything. At the end of his ministry, he humbled himself and died on the cross, righteous for the unrighteous, so that we would be justified before God.He died and was buried and on the third day He arose from the grace for our justification. Those who believe in Jesus and place their faith in Christ Alone, they are declared righteous.
Those who reject Christ will miserably perish in a place called hell. John 3:16 says
Right now, Jesus is heaven seated at the right hand of God. He ascended into heaven and he is interceding for the saints.
Jesus Second Coming
Jesus will come again, not as a baby born in a manger but as a conquering King. The time of Jesus Second Coming is not known. When He appears, salvation of the saints will be complete.
It may seem like Jesus is not coming back, but I assure you that he will definitely come. The question should be; Are you saved? Because if you are not saved, you are going to perish. Click here to know what is the Gospel.
