None Good, No Good Heart; 2 BIG LIES TO REJECT
Good heart, good people. The popular worldview is that man is good. Many people down the street will tell you that they are good people. They can support that by giving you a list of their actions. They may tell you they have not been in jail, never killed anyone, go to church, and do good things. When you do a simple test by asking how many lies they have told, if they ever stole anything, etc., they will say yes if they are genuine. Yet having done this, they think they are good people. Well, we all thought we were before we knew what scripture says.
The idea of being good is relative to human nature. When we think of being good, we think of comparing ourselves with those around us. Someone who has never been in jail sees himself as a good person. It is dependent on which people you are comparing with. All other religions except Christianity teach that salvation is only for good people.
ARE THERE GOOD PEOPLE?
All have turned away,
they have together become worthless;
there is no one who does good,
not even one.” Romans 3:12 NIV
The Bible teaches exactly the opposite of the world’s loved philosophy. The Bible teaches that men are not good but evil. It also teaches that men do evil things because their hearts are wicked. The reason why people do evil things is that their hearts are corrupt. The state of the heart is home to everything that drives man. His wills, thoughts, talk, and deeds are all manufactured from the heart. In Luke 6:45
Jesus said, “Out of the abundance of the heart, the mouth speaks,” meaning that what we hear people saying is a sure indicator of the start of the heart.
A young rich ruler thought he was good when he approached Jesus. He boasted he had done all commandments. Maybe he had missed the sermon on the mount. Maybe he didn’t know that being angry at someone without a cause was equal to murder. He forgot looking with lust was adultery in the eyes of God. In either case, he never cared. All he wanted was approval. Jesus told him that he was not good. Later, the young man said the opposite of what Jesus had said earlier. By claiming to be good, he meant Jesus was lying when he had said tha one is good.
It is important you understand what I mean when I talk about being good. I do not mean trying your best or quitting this and that. I do not mean talking in a certain manner or putting a certain. Evil people are capable of doing some good things. People, being evil, give good and do good things for their own people. Evil people can help the poor, console the lowly, and show concern for their loved ones to the
What I mean by being good I mean being in that state at which Adam and Eve were before the fall. It is to be holy as God is. It is about always thinking good things, saying the right things, and doing the right things. It is to follow God’s will 100% without missing any detail. It is clean, without sin. As we know, no child of Adam can be that. What is born of the flesh is flesh, and man is from the earth is earthy. (John 3:6). Only God is good.
Do we have Good Hearts?
Another common lie that is very popular is that men have good hearts. This is often an answer to the question, “If men are good, then why do they do bad things.” The human philosophy says that although men do bad things, deep in their hearts, their intentions are good. Isn’t this popular?
“The heart is deceitful above all things,
And [d]desperately wicked;
Who can know it?
10I, the Lord, search the heart,
I test the [e]mind,
Even to give every man according to his ways,
According to the fruit of his doings.
The Bible teaches that in man, the heart of the problem is the problem of the human heart. It is because of the fallen nature of the human heart that makes him do sinful things. And for man to change, his heart must be worked. He is dead, blind, naked, hopeless- under wrath. His heart is of stone. He needs a new heart.
But the things that come out of the mouth come from the heart, and these make a man `unclean.’19For out of the heart come evil thoughts, murder, adultery, sexual immorality, theft, false testimony, slander. Mathew 15:19-20 NIV
The man does not need the motivation to be better. Not the promises of goodness nor terrors of hell will make a man repent if the Spirit does not convict him. You can tell them of glories of paradise or terrors of hell, and they will remain there unmoved as mountains. We must always pray to God to change the hearts of the lost people.
The man is wicked, and his heart is deceitful. Let’s never buy into the world’s idea that man is good and his heart good. This is very vital. If man’s state is not what Bible says, then we should close our Bible and indulge ourselves in everything we find ourselves in.
