Amazing Grace, How Sweet the Sound
Amazing grace how sweet the sound
That saved a wretch like me
I once was lost, but now I’m found
Was blind but now I see
‘Twas grace that taught my heart to fear
And grace my fears relieved
How precious did that grace appear
The hour I first believed
Through many dangers, toils, and snares
I have already come
This grace that brought me safe thus far
And grace will lead me home
When we’ve been here ten thousand years
Bright, shining as the sun
We’ve no less days to sing God’s praise
Than when we first begun
Amazing grace how sweet the sound
That saved a wretch like me
I once was lost, but now I’m found
Was blind but now I see
About the hymn, Amazing Grace
This ageless hymn was penned 243 years ago (1779) by English clergyman and hymn writer John Newton. Throughout the ages, this hymn has been loved by many believers more when you consider its contents. It is full of truth, doctrinally sound, and gives glory to God.
When I consider who I was before conversion, it is really amazing how the Sovereign grace of God saved a wrecked wretch like me. I was a sinner and I was blind. But now I see and I am found. I am where I am by the grace of God. I am not what I used to be and neither am I what to be but by His grace I am what I am. By this far, it has been grace and that same amazing grace will take me home to be with my Lord. The same grace which saved me will carry me through all eternity praising my Lord.
…by the grace of God I am what I am…
1 Corinthians 15:10 NKJV
