Paul Mackenzie Nthenge is a cult leader who just deceived his cult members to starve to death in the name of fasting to meet Jesus. More than 200 bodies have been dug out on a piece of land he owns in Shakahola village, Kilifi County, Kenya.
More than 200 bodies have been dug out whereas several other people have been rescued from Shakahola forest still fasting. One grave had 5 bodies of family members, Father, mother, and their three children. All these people who live in this poverty-stricken area succumbed to the deception of the cult leader who influenced them to fast to death.
The news has it that some victims of his deception have refused to eat even in police custody. Even the cult leader is said to have refused to even take a glass of water claiming he was fasting and praying. Detectives claimed that he had not eaten since the exercise of marking the gravesites and exhuming the bodies started.
The Teachings of Paul Mackenzie
Mackenzie of manipulating locals through skewed extreme religious teachings, and fear of the unknown in pursuit of salvation, leading to the deaths of many. The self-styled spiritual leader, who was once a controversial televangelist, is now on the detectives’ radar for allegedly preaching a dangerous doctrine that encourages his followers to starve themselves to death in order to reach heaven faster.
It is not the first time he has been spreading this satanic message. In 2019, he was forced to close down his church for radicalization. He has been arrested in the past in connection with the deaths of many people.

The cult leader denied the claims to have lied to his followers to fast claiming that none of his family members was on the fast. As the exhumation continues in Shakahola forest, the place believed that many followers of Paul Makenzie are starving themselves to death, the wake-up call has been called on the government to regulate the church and avoid radicalization.
When this sad news hit the Christians, the eyes were risen to Christians about the regulation of church by the state thus sparking a hot debate between those who supported the move and those opposing it.
Men all over the world are very religious, just as Athenians were when Paul visited Athens. They made idols and they worshipped them. Although they knew that there was a God who was not known, their own poet had said, “We are his offspring.” Man will make his god, left to himself. Someone may ask, “What about the atheists?” Atheists are just pretenders who pretend there is no God so that they may leave as they wish.
There is no government policy that can regulate the church. For the most part, it is more probable that sound churches may suffer more compared to false churches. The only safeguard against false doctrine and cults is the study of God’s word. Those who are looking for miracles will soon be deceived.
How to Avoid Joining Cults: What can we learn from Paul Mackenzie
We live in an age where everyone seems to be getting revelations from God. With this, anyone can say anything. Makenzie started his indoctrination with “God told me.” Once a person says God has told them something, there is no proof to check whether it is true or not.
However, we can be assured that God has spoken in His word and that He will never contradict His word for God is not the author of confusion.
The bottom question is: Are you reading your Bible or do you just take in whatever your pastor says? Do you check it? What if he is lying to you? You must be a Berean if you don’t want to fall into a cult. If you don’t read your Bible you will be deceived. Even good books, sermons, and commentaries should never substitute Bible. Men are fallible and they can stagger and utter things which are not the truth. They may speak from preconceived ideas and they can speak things into the Bible. Studying Bible you will get an inerrant and sure word of God, pure and free from error. Study the Bible and you will avoid falling into cults.
