Happy Madaraka Day, 2023
Madaraka is a swahili word meaning ruling power or authority. Madaraka day is an important day to every Kenyan. Kenyans commemorate the day in which Kenya gained self internal governance from UK government. After 43 years of struggle and fighting for independence, Kenya finally got a foretaste of freedom.
Thanks to our brave Mau Mau fighters who fought tirelessly. Some were tortured, denied food and even killed. It is sad that many of who fought so hard never tasted this freedom but they all died hoping that one day white man would be chased from this nation.
Nevertheless, 60 years from independence we have not yet been truly independent. From poor governance, from external powers and many other factors, Kenyans today continue to hope for better Kenya. Many efforts have been put into place but still much is yet to realised. No doubt that we have come from far and it is better with our leadership as imperfect as it may be than having colonialists as our leaders.
I do not expect my government to be perfect. Because of sin, the vision of many leaders who fought for independence will remain a dream till new earth and new heavens is established.
However, I know another rule which rules in every heart of man in this world. This rule is contrary to the rule of God. It makes us hate what is good and love what is evil. This rule, has made true independence and true freedom to never be enjoyed by everyone. It sets us against God. It is the rule of sin.
We are naturally sinners and we obey and do the will of Satan which is sin. We are naturally zealous of sin and disobedient to God’s will. Do you wonder what’s wrong with all of us? It is because of the sin nature in us.
Unlike Maumau fighters, no man can fight this sinful nature in our hearts. No man ever has been able to conquer sin by his ability. But thanks to God for Christ Jesus, who has conquered the sin for us and has set us truly free from sin. We can therefore conquer sin because Christ has saved us.
Today, Christ Jesus is calling all people everywhere to believe in Him and trust Him for salvation. Are you saved? Check the Gospel HERE.
