Scripture Reading and Prayer
I knew that Faith was not into me because our relationship was not going anywhere. At first, we could talk hours, text throughout and even spent alot of time together. It was delight for both of us. But at this time, I had to face the reality before me. She was not there anymore.
You see, communication is key to any relationship or friendship. How many people have we gone from close friends to total strangers simply because conversations which churned up our friendships died long ago? We all know how silent treatments have killed relationships.
The main purpose of this piece is not to talk about relationships but prayer and reading of scripture. If you are christian, this is subject which demands us to look again and again lest our love for God grows cold and soon we find ourselves having fallen into sin.
Prayer is a means in which we speak to God the Father through Jesus Christ in the power of the Holy Spirit. Whenever we want to make ourselves heard in the courts above, we must pray to God. Reading of Scripture is main way in which God speaks to us. So for our relationship with God to grow, we need to value these two means of biblical spirituality.
Through scripture God speaks to us (Deuteronomy 1:8, 2Timothy 3:16). He shows us what we are— a sinner , who He is—Holy, what we deserve—eternal punishment and what He has done—send His begotten son Christ Jesus to die for our sins on the cross. God tells what we are required to do obtain salvatiom, to just believe in the finished work of Christ Jesus on the cross. (Romans 3:10, Revelation 15:4, Romans 6:23, John 3:16).
Through scripture, God tells us of His for us, how He is working all things for our good reminding us that present light momentary trials cannot be compared to the glory which is to come. He multiplies our hearts with joy by his sweet providence, He comforts us by His word when we are afflicted.
Through the scripture, God gives strength, warns of satans snares and he rebukes us when we sin. God restores us to the joy of our salvation by his immutable word.
When anxiety creeps in and fears of what future holds takes away our joy, he reminds us that He is from everlasting and that we should make known to Him all our requests and He grants us the peace that transcends all understanding.
How could survive without God’s word? His word is lamp to our feet and light to our path (Psalm 119:105). Without scripture, we will be sure to fall and lose the way to Life.
What of prayer? Can we survive without? We cannot. Christian life is a fight and how shall we fight the good fight of faith without prayer? Our flesh, the world and the satan, all these three are working to cause us woe. The flesh is lusting after things of this world, the world is enticing us to sin and Satan is daily looking someone to devour.
We need to constantly plead with God to help in christian life. And our God will answer every prayer we make.We should never fall into temptation that God never hears our prayers. That is discouragement is coming from Devil.
What a priviledge it is to be able to approach God and tell Him about everything.
Do you have a burden in your heart? Tell Him about it. He is listening.
Do you know a brother or sister who has fallen into sin? Tell God about it.
Are you hurt, disappointed and confused? Tell God about.
Are you sick? He is Jehova Rapha. Tell Him in prayer.
Are you heartbroken? He can bind your broken pieces an heal your heart.
Are you weak? He can strengthen you.
Have you sinned greatly? He can wash you and forgive and make you whole. He can mak you a new creature. Tell Him.
Are you thankful and Joyous. Go and thank Him for His goodness.
See, he has dealt well with us and let us always thank Him.
And you know what? We can tell God literally everything because he knows everything about us. He knows our fears, our secrets, our weaknesses and desires. So when we approach we can tell Him everything.
If we want our relationship with God to grow, we need to spend time with God in His word and also in Prayer.
May we never neglect learning from Him from His Word and also approaching the throne of grace to obtain grace in the time of need.
Shalom.
