Pastor Ezekiel Odero selling nails claiming they have power

Pastor Ezekiel Odero of the New Life Church appeared in a viral video applying oil on iron nails which he claimed could bring health and prosperity to those who would buy them. In the shared video, Ezekiel Odero appeared in his signature white robe, saying that his spiritual father, Pius Muiru, had instructed him to do that.

“I want to do something here prophetic under the command of my spiritual father,” the megachurch televangelist said while applying the oil to the nails that were in a carton. He began his prayer, “Father, as directed by my spiritual mentor and father in the Lord, I anoint these nails for the purpose of healing,  deliverance, acquisition of property,” saying that the nails were for the purpose of healing, deliverance, and property acquisition.

Ezekiel prayed that the nails could also protect family, marriage, and home from witchcraft. He said that if anyone nails them on a piece of land they will be able to acquire that land and many others.”… Popote itagongelewa, hii misumari, ulinzi dhidi ya uchawi, kwa boma, kwa familia, kwa ndoa, kwa nyumba. Mwingine ataigongelea kwa shamba na atamiliki hiyo shamba na mashamba mengine…” Ezekiel said in prayer.

The mystical nails had power to even finish up incomplete buildings and bring many customers to the businesses of those who would buy them. “..Kwa nyumba na hiyo nyumba itakamilika kujengwa. Imekwama kujengwa ikamilike kujengwa. Ukombozi, ulinzi, Baraka tele. Mlango wa biashara na wateja wamiminike..” Then he finished his prayer in Jesus’ name and claimed that the Oil came from Bethlehem.”..  In the name of Jesus Christ. I pray, declare and decree. It will happen so.  Annointing oil imetoka Bethlehem. Come take the anointing. God bless you, Shalom…”

Now, all the things this popular televangelist was doing was not biblical at all. Pastor Ezekiel is well known for selling merchandise like handkerchiefs which he claimed they have healed thousands. Every Sunday, thousands of Kenyans, sick, poor and people with all kinds of problems flock to his church seeking a miracle. His programs are televised through his church owned tv station where he is watched by many.

The rise of the prosperity gospel, the teaching that God wants you healthy and wealthy is propagated by many self-proclaimed prophets and apostles in Christendom. The teaching revolves around giving money to the pastor’s ministry and in turn God will bless you with abundant health and wealth. Some even sell oils, bottled water, handkerchiefs, etc claiming that they have power to heal and bring wealth.

The problem of the prosperity gospel is that manipulates the weak, poor, and those who are not discerning. The teachers take advantage of those suffering and solicit money from them promising them blessings while in fact they become poor and poor. Prosperity gospel does not point people to the gospel where there is true hope.

The gospel according to the scriptures is the good news of Jesus that he came and died for our sins so that we could have peace with God. This gospel is powerful to save and guard saints in this world till Jesus returns. You and I need to avoid preachers who are out spreading heresy for the sake of their stomachs.

Keep your life free from love of money, and be content with what you have, for he has said, ‘I will never leave you nor forsake you’” (Heb. 13:5).

Pastor Ezekiel Odero must be avoided for his teachings are unbiblical.
